Acupuncture originated in China over 5 thousand years ago. It balances the energy or Qi which flows in channels throughout the body by stimulating points along the channels with fine needles. It is often accompanied by dietary changes and herbal formulas (patents).
A diagnosis is based on the “Five Element Theory” which looks at the whole person. Both physical and emotional symptoms are considered. Therefore, it is not hard to see that acupuncture and Chinese medicine has many applications besides pain relief.
Acupuncture protocols can range from one session for acute issues to once per week for a minimum of 6 weeks for chronic conditions.
I started my postsecondary career at the University of Guelph where I studied Environmental Engineering. I wanted to heal the world. Let’s just say it wasn’t what I thought it was.
